On the Bridge of Avignon – Sur le Pont d’Avignon

From the Pont Saint-Bénézet (better known as Bridge of Avignon / Pont d’Avignon), you have a beautiful view on the old city of Avignon. The Papal Palace is clearly visible. The Pont d’Avignon was built in the 12th century and originally 899m long. It had 22 arches, but only 4 of them still stand and reach into the river Rhone. The Bridge of Avignon once has been the only fixed connection between Lyon and the Mediterranean.

Avignon at Night – Panorama

This is a panorama taken in Avignon during the blue hour. Night is falling, so the lights are switched on. The bridge in front is the Bridge of Avignon (Pont d’Avignon). Behind it you can see the tracers of the traffic in front of the city wall. Within the city wall you can find the papal palace as a beautiful and interesting part of the old city.
